Spending most of my summer very year at Castle Island, I see it as second home. Smelling the sea water, is the best small ever. What I love most is running along the beaches in the morning, sitting along the beach with sand covering my toes, the windy breeze blowing at my face, the sound of bird chipping in the morning, and the wonderful smell of the ocean. Behind all these wonderful things, there is a history of Castle Island. Castle Island was built in 1643, and was used as fort. The fort helped the Boston defend themselves from the British in the War of1812. The War of 1812 lasted till 1815, when the war ended up as a victory for the Americans. The British Empire was not strong enough to penetrate the Americans forts. Castle Island was mainly used as a nursing shelter; it’s made from bricks which makes it harder for enemies to penetrate. When the soldiers are injured they would be brought there to be treated. Nowadays Castle Island is tourist site where many people come just to see the fort. The Fort is open in the afternoon, and once it hits dark, it closes its doors. Inside the fort contains high walls, and mini hut which they show some of the items back in the days.
